Sobre o artista
Bastille é uma banda britânica liderada pelo cantor e compositor Dan Smith, que fundou o projeto em Londres antes de crescer até se tornar uma banda completa. Após um single limitado inicial e o EP «Laura Palmer», de 2011, assinaram com a Virgin Records e chamaram atenção com mixtapes gratuitas construídas em parte sobre samples, antes de lançar o álbum de estreia «Bad Blood» em 2013, impulsionado por singles como «Pompeii», «Bad Blood» e «Flaws».
«Pompeii» tornou-se o grande hit definidor da banda, alcançando certificações multiplatina internacionalmente e, por um período, sendo uma das músicas mais tocadas em streaming da história do Reino Unido. O som da banda combina composição indie pop com refrões hinônicos, produção cinematográfica e texturas eletrônicas, muitas vezes construído em torno de letras de Smith com referências literárias e de cultura pop, o que lhes confere um som distinto do indie rock guitarrístico direto.
Em lançamentos posteriores, a banda continuou explorando um território mais sombrio, eletrônico e conceitualmente ambicioso, com álbuns e faixas como «Doom Days» e «World Gone Mad» refletindo um som em evolução que transita entre o pop-rock hinônico e material mais introspectivo e atmosférico. Bastille permanece uma das bandas britânicas comercialmente mais bem-sucedidas surgidas da onda indie pop do início dos anos 2010.
