Sobre el artista
Bastille es una banda británica liderada por el cantante y compositor Dan Smith, quien fundó el proyecto en Londres antes de que creciera hasta convertirse en una banda completa. Tras un sencillo limitado inicial y el EP «Laura Palmer» de 2011, firmaron con Virgin Records y llamaron la atención con mixtapes gratuitos construidos en parte sobre samples, antes de lanzar su álbum debut «Bad Blood» en 2013, impulsado por sencillos como «Pompeii», «Bad Blood» y «Flaws».
«Pompeii» se convirtió en el gran éxito definitorio de la banda, logrando certificaciones multiplatino a nivel internacional y, durante un tiempo, siendo una de las canciones más reproducidas en streaming de la historia del Reino Unido. El sonido de la banda combina composición indie pop con estribillos himnicos, producción cinematográfica y texturas electrónicas, a menudo construido alrededor de letras de Smith con referencias literarias y de cultura pop, lo que les otorga un sonido distinto del indie rock guitarrero convencional.
En lanzamientos posteriores, la banda siguió explorando un territorio más oscuro, electrónico y conceptualmente ambicioso, con álbumes y canciones como «Doom Days» y «World Gone Mad» reflejando un sonido en evolución que se mueve entre el pop-rock himnico y material más introspectivo y atmosférico. Bastille sigue siendo una de las bandas británicas comercialmente más exitosas surgidas de la ola de indie pop de principios de los 2010.
