About the artist
Bastille are a British band fronted by singer and songwriter Dan Smith, who founded the project in London before it grew into a full band. After a limited early single and the 2011 «Laura Palmer» EP, they signed to Virgin Records and drew attention with free mixtapes built partly around samples, before releasing their debut album «Bad Blood» in 2013, powered by singles including «Pompeii», «Bad Blood», and «Flaws».
«Pompeii» became the band's defining hit, achieving multi-platinum certifications internationally and, for a period, standing as one of the UK's most-streamed songs ever. The band's sound blends indie pop songwriting with anthemic choruses, cinematic production, and electronic textures, often built around Smith's literary and pop-culture-referencing lyrics, giving them a sound distinct from straightforward guitar-based indie rock.
Across subsequent releases the band continued exploring darker, more electronic and conceptually ambitious territory, with albums and tracks like «Doom Days» and «World Gone Mad» reflecting an evolving sound that moves between anthemic pop-rock and more introspective, atmospheric material. Bastille remain one of the more commercially successful British bands to emerge from the early-2010s indie pop wave.
