About the artist
Ed Sheeran was born in Halifax, England, and raised in Framlingham, Suffolk. He built his career the hard way, playing hundreds of small gigs and busking sessions across the UK and even in the United States before being signed. His early independent releases, including the No. 5 Collaborations Project, connected him with UK grime artists and showcased his skill with a loop pedal, layering acoustic guitar, beatboxing and vocals live on stage.
His major-label debut, + (Plus), and its singles like «The A Team» and «Lego House» established him as a singer-songwriter capable of blending folk-pop songwriting with hip-hop-influenced delivery. Subsequent albums × (Multiply) and ÷ (Divide) turned him into a global pop superstar, with «Thinking Out Loud», «Photograph» and the record-breaking «Shape of You» becoming some of the best-known songs of the streaming era. His sound mixes acoustic pop instrumentation with elements of R&B, dancehall and rap, often performed solo using loop-pedal technology.
Sheeran has become known for deeply personal songwriting, addressing love, loss and family, as heard in songs like «Supermarket Flowers» and «Castle on the Hill». He has collaborated widely across genres, including his duet «Perfect Duet» with Beyoncé, and remains one of the most commercially successful singer-songwriters of his generation.
