Johnny Cash (1932–2003) foi um cantor e compositor americano cujo baritono profundo e ressonante, aliado a um estilo narrativo austero, o tornou uma das figuras mais duradouras da música country, ao mesmo tempo em que seu espírito rebelde o colocou entre os fundadores do rock and roll. Criado na zona rural do Arkansas, começou a se apresentar em meados dos anos 1950, gravando para a Sun Records em Memphis junto a contemporâneos como Elvis Presley, e rapidamente desenvolveu um som despojado construído em torno de sua voz, violão e o ritmo compacto de sua banda de apoio, os Tennessee Two.
