Sobre el artista
The Cure se formaron en Crawley, Inglaterra, en 1976, en torno a la composicion del guitarrista y vocalista Robert Smith. Comenzando como un grupo cercano al punk, su discografica los empujo hacia el pop en sus inicios, hasta que Smith los llevo a un territorio mas oscuro y atmosferico tras tocar con Siouxsie and the Banshees, culminando en la intensidad sombria de Pornography (1982).
En lugar de separarse, el grupo giro hacia un pop mas luminoso y ecléctico, alcanzando su punto comercial mas alto con el doble album Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me (1987). Incomodo con ser encasillado como banda gotica, Smith siguio empujando el sonido en nuevas direcciones, y para 1989, con Disintegration, forjo lo que muchos consideran la obra maestra del grupo: exuberante, melancolica y minuciosamente construida.
El sonido caracteristico de The Cure combina guitarras brillantes, bajos con chorus, sintetizadores y la voz distintiva y quejumbrosa de Smith, moviendose con fluidez entre el post-punk sombrio y el pop efervescente. Canciones como «Lovesong», «Just Like Heaven», «Friday Im in Love» y «Boys Dont Cry» los convirtieron en una de las bandas que tendieron puentes entre lo alternativo y lo masivo, y su influencia se extiende al shoegaze, el indie rock y la subcultura gotica.
