Sobre el artista
Elvis Presley fue un cantante estadounidense nacido en Tupelo, Misisipi, que se mudó con su familia a Memphis, Tennessee, en la adolescencia y se sumergió en la escena de blues y gospel de la ciudad. En 1954, grabando para Sun Records bajo el productor Sam Phillips, registró «That's All Right», una fusión de blues y energía country que ayudó a encender el rock and roll como género y le valió el título de «Rey del Rock and Roll».
Contratado por RCA Victor bajo la gestión del coronel Tom Parker, Presley logró su primer número uno con «Heartbreak Hotel» en 1956, seguido de una serie de sencillos definitorios de una época, entre ellos «Hound Dog», «Jailhouse Rock» y «Love Me Tender». Sus actuaciones de caderas provocativas y su carisma escénico lo convirtieron en un fenómeno cultural y en un punto de controversia en la América de los años cincuenta, mientras su voz se movía con soltura entre el rock and roll, las baladas, el gospel y el country.
Más allá de la música, Presley protagonizó numerosas películas y ofreció actuaciones en vivo legendarias, incluido su especial televisivo de regreso de 1968 y sus residencias en Las Vegas. Canciones como «Suspicious Minds», «If I Can Dream» y «Can't Help Falling in Love» mostraron su rango perdurable en la etapa final de su carrera.
