Sobre el artista
Gorillaz es una banda virtual creada en 1998 por Damon Albarn, líder de Blur, y el artista Jamie Hewlett, cocreador del cómic Tank Girl. El proyecto presenta a cuatro personajes animados —2-D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle y Russel Hobbs— como la cara pública de la música, mientras Albarn actúa como único colaborador musical constante junto a un elenco cambiante de coautores y productores.
Musicalmente, Gorillaz se mueve entre el rock alternativo, el hip-hop, el dub, la electrónica y el pop, apoyándose a menudo en samples desgastados, bajos serpenteantes y las melodías melancólicas de Albarn. Su álbum debut (2001) y el sencillo «Clint Eastwood» definieron un sonido brumoso y mestizo, mientras que «Demon Days» (2005), con temas como «Feel Good Inc.» y «DARE», llevó al proyecto hacia un terreno más oscuro y ambicioso. Discos posteriores como «Plastic Beach» y «Humanz» profundizaron en las colaboraciones, sumando una enorme cantidad de vocalistas y productores invitados del pop, el rap y la electrónica.
Su identidad visual es inseparable de la música: cada álbum despliega una narrativa en torno a los cuatro personajes animados, contada a través de videoclips y cortos animados.
