Sobre el artista
Death Grips es un grupo de hip-hop experimental formado en Sacramento, California, en 2010, construido alrededor de la voz confrontacional de MC Ride (Stefan Burnett) y la producción áspera y transgresora de géneros del baterista Zach Hill y Andy Morin. Debutando con la mixtape gratuita Exmilitary en 2011, el grupo fusionó ruido industrial, agresión punk y electrónica glitch con rap, creando un sonido duro, denso y prácticamente inclasificable dentro del hip-hop convencional.
Su debut en un sello mayor, The Money Store, les trajo mayor atención, pero el grupo se hizo igualmente conocido por su comportamiento impredecible: fueron despedidos de Epic Records tras autopublicar el siguiente álbum, No Love Deep Web, en contra de la voluntad del sello, con una portada explícita. Posteriormente dirigieron su propio sello, Third Worlds, publicando álbumes como Government Plates y el extenso álbum doble The Powers That B, cuya segunda mitad, Jenny Death, llegó después de que la banda anunciara polémicamente una separación que resultó ser temporal.
Death Grips ha seguido publicando álbumes a un ritmo impredecible, a menudo lanzando proyectos por sorpresa con poco aviso, consolidando su reputación como uno de los actos más confrontacionales e indefinibles surgidos del hip-hop underground y la música noise, influyendo en toda una generación de artistas de rap experimental y electrónica.
