¿De qué trata "Here I Am, Lord"?
«Here I Am, Lord» fue escrita en 1981 por Dan Schutte, entonces miembro de los St. Louis Jesuits, un grupo de compositores católicos estadounidenses que renovó la música litúrgica tras el Concilio Vaticano II. La letra se basa directamente en los relatos proféticos de vocación de Isaías 6:8 («¿A quién enviaré?... Aquí estoy, envíame a mí») y en la respuesta de Samuel a la voz de Dios en la noche (1 Samuel 3). En cada estrofa habla la voz de Dios, describiendo el sufrimiento humano y su intención de actuar, mientras que el coro da la respuesta humana de entrega y disposición a servir. Publicado por OCP (Oregon Catholic Press), se convirtió rápidamente en uno de los himnos más cantados en el culto católico y protestante, especialmente en ordenaciones, votos religiosos, envíos misioneros y funerales, valorado por presentar la vocación y el discipulado como un diálogo personal y directo con Dios.
