¿De qué trata "Nutshell"?
«Nutshell» apareció en el EP Jar of Flies de Alice in Chains de 1994, el primer EP en la historia en debutar en el número uno del Billboard 200. Escrita por el guitarrista Jerry Cantrell (música) y el cantante Layne Staley (letra), se considera una de las canciones más emocionalmente crudas de la banda, centrada en el aislamiento, la violación de la intimidad y la desesperación más que en un tema externo concreto. Versos como «nadie a quien llorar, ningún lugar que llamar hogar» y «me sentiría mejor muerto» suelen leerse en retrospectiva como reflejo de la creciente adicción a la heroína de Staley, que terminó llevándolo a la muerte en 2002. El arreglo lento y fúnebre, junto con la guitarra melancólica de Cantrell, refuerza el ambiente sombrío del tema. Su interpretación acústica en MTV Unplugged en 1996, una de las últimas apariciones públicas importantes de Staley, se recuerda especialmente por su intensidad cruda.
