About the artist
The Cranberries were an Irish rock band from Limerick, formed in 1989, whose classic lineup featured singer-songwriter Dolores O'Riordan, guitarist Noel Hogan, bassist Mike Hogan and drummer Fergal Lawler. They became one of the defining alternative rock acts of the 1990s, blending jangly, dream-pop-influenced guitars with O'Riordan's distinctive, keening vocal style, which drew comparisons to The Sundays and Cocteau Twins early on before evolving into something far more forceful and instantly recognizable.
Their 1993 debut, «Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?», built momentum slowly until the single «Linger» broke through internationally, propelling the album to multi-platinum sales. The follow-up, «No Need to Argue» (1994), included «Zombie», a raw, distortion-heavy protest song about the Troubles in Northern Ireland that became the band's signature track and one of the most recognizable rock songs of the decade, alongside gentler hits like «Ode to My Family» and «Dreams».
The Cranberries went on to release several more albums into the 2010s, cementing a legacy built on O'Riordan's emotionally direct songwriting and the band's ability to move fluidly between vulnerable balladry and anthemic, socially conscious rock, before O'Riordan's death in 2018 brought the band's story to a close.
