About the artist

Arctic Monkeys are an English rock band formed in 2002 in High Green, a suburb of Sheffield. The band's core lineup features Alex Turner on lead vocals and guitar, Matt Helders on drums, and Jamie Cook on guitar, with Nick O'Malley on bass since 2006, replacing founding member Andy Nicholson. They became one of the first bands to build a fanbase largely through internet word-of-mouth, as demo CDs sold at gigs were ripped and shared online ahead of any formal record deal.

Their 2006 debut album, «Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not», became the fastest-selling debut album in UK chart history at the time, driven by singles like «I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor». From there the band's sound evolved dramatically across releases, moving from taut, wordy post-punk revival into darker, heavier territory on «Humbug» and «Suck It and See», before embracing a smoother, groove-driven, almost lounge-rock and R&B-inflected sound on «AM», home to tracks like «Do I Wanna Know?», «R U Mine?» and «Arabella».

Later records pushed further into lounge, jazz and cinematic art-rock textures, showing a band unafraid to reinvent itself album to album while retaining Turner's distinctive wit-driven lyricism, cementing Arctic Monkeys as one of the most influential and commercially successful British rock bands of their generation.
