About the artist
Radiohead formed in Abingdon, England, in 1985 under the name On A Friday, later becoming Radiohead when they signed to EMI in 1991. The band's steady line-up has always featured Thom Yorke on vocals and guitar, Jonny Greenwood on lead guitar, Ed O'Brien on guitar, Colin Greenwood on bass, and Philip Selway on drums. Their breakthrough single «Creep» became an unexpected worldwide hit in the early 1990s, though the band initially struggled with the one-hit-wonder label that followed.
They shed that reputation decisively with The Bends in 1995 and especially OK Computer in 1997, an album widely regarded as one of the greatest of its era, blending anxious, alienated lyricism with intricate guitar interplay. Radiohead then took a radical turn with Kid A and Amnesiac, incorporating electronic textures, jazz influences and glitch production, moving far from conventional rock songwriting while retaining Yorke's distinctive falsetto and the band's atmospheric tension.
Known for songs like «Karma Police», «No Surprises», «Paranoid Android» and «Fake Plastic Trees», Radiohead built a reputation for restless reinvention across every album, refusing to repeat past formulas. Their influence extends across alternative rock and electronic music, and they remain celebrated for both their sonic ambition and their skepticism toward the traditional music industry, notably self-releasing In Rainbows on a pay-what-you-want basis.
