About the artist
Porcupine Tree is an English rock band formed in 1987 by Steven Wilson, who initially conceived it as a solo project before assembling a full band with Richard Barbieri on keyboards, Colin Edwin on bass and, later, Gavin Harrison on drums. The band's early work drew heavily on psychedelic and progressive rock, drawing frequent comparisons to Pink Floyd, before evolving toward alternative rock and eventually progressive metal.
Albums such as «In Absentia», «Deadwing» and «Fear of a Blank Planet» showcased the band's ability to fuse atmospheric, melodic songwriting with heavier, more aggressive arrangements, cementing their status as a key act in modern progressive rock. Wilson's meticulous production and the band's musicianship, especially Harrison's intricate drumming, became defining traits of their sound.
Following their tenth album, «The Incident», the band went on an extended hiatus as members pursued solo projects, with Wilson in particular building a significant solo career. Porcupine Tree eventually reunited, continuing to be regarded as one of the most influential progressive rock groups of their era, admired for bridging the gap between introspective art rock and heavier metal textures.
