Sobre o artista
Porcupine Tree é uma banda de rock inglesa formada em 1987 por Steven Wilson, que inicialmente a concebeu como um projeto solo antes de montar uma banda completa com Richard Barbieri nos teclados, Colin Edwin no baixo e, mais tarde, Gavin Harrison na bateria. O trabalho inicial da banda apoiava-se fortemente no rock psicodélico e progressivo, gerando comparações frequentes com o Pink Floyd, antes de evoluir para o rock alternativo e, por fim, o metal progressivo.
Álbuns como «In Absentia», «Deadwing» e «Fear of a Blank Planet» mostraram a capacidade da banda de fundir composições atmosféricas e melódicas com arranjos mais pesados e agressivos, consolidando seu status como um ato-chave do rock progressivo moderno. A produção meticulosa de Wilson e o virtuosismo da banda, especialmente a bateria intrincada de Harrison, tornaram-se traços definidores de seu som.
Após o décimo álbum, «The Incident», a banda entrou em um longo hiato enquanto os membros se dedicavam a projetos solo, com Wilson construindo uma carreira solo significativa. O Porcupine Tree eventualmente se reuniu e continua sendo considerado uma das bandas de rock progressivo mais influentes de sua era.
