About the artist
Oasis formed in Manchester, England, in 1991, led by the songwriting of Noel Gallagher and the vocals of his brother Liam Gallagher. The band became one of the defining acts of the Britpop movement, blending anthemic guitar rock with melodic hooks drawn from bands like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, delivered with unapologetic swagger.
Their 1994 debut, Definitely Maybe, exploded onto the UK charts, followed by (What's the Story) Morning Glory? in 1995, which produced enduring hits like «Wonderwall» and «Don't Look Back in Anger» and turned the band into global stars. Their rivalry with Blur became emblematic of the Britpop era, generating enormous media attention around a chart battle that Oasis ultimately overshadowed with worldwide success.
Later albums, including Be Here Now and Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, met a more mixed critical reception amid well-documented tension between the Gallagher brothers, though the band retained a massive live following. Oasis split in 2009, but songs such as «Wonderwall», «Champagne Supernova», and «Live Forever» remain touchstones of 1990s British rock and continue to define an entire generation's musical identity.
