About the artist
Megadeth was formed in Los Angeles in 1983 by guitarist and vocalist Dave Mustaine after his departure from Metallica, alongside bassist David Ellefson, who became his longtime musical partner. Named after the term «megadeath», referring to mass nuclear casualties, the band set out to play thrash metal that was faster and more technically demanding than its peers. Despite a famously unstable lineup around the two founding members, Megadeth became one of the genre's defining acts and, alongside Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax, is regarded as one of the «Big Four» of thrash metal.
The band's classic run of albums — Peace Sells... but Who's Buying?, So Far, So Good... So What!, Rust in Peace and Countdown to Extinction — combined intricate, technically virtuosic guitar work with politically charged, often cynical lyrics addressing war, corruption and social decay. Tracks like «Holy Wars... The Punishment Due», «Symphony of Destruction», «Tornado of Souls» and «Hangar 18» showcased the band's signature blend of aggression and musicianship, while later songs such as «À Tout le Monde» and «Sweating Bullets» revealed a more melodic, introspective side.
Through numerous lineup changes across four decades, Mustaine remained the band's constant creative force, steering Megadeth through stylistic shifts while retaining its reputation as one of heavy metal's most technically accomplished and influential bands.
