Sobre el artista
Megadeth se formó en Los Ángeles en 1983 por el guitarrista y vocalista Dave Mustaine tras su salida de Metallica, junto al bajista David Ellefson, quien se convirtió en su compañero musical de toda la vida. Bautizada a partir del término «megadeath», que alude a la muerte masiva por armas nucleares, la banda se propuso tocar thrash metal más rápido y técnicamente más exigente que sus contemporáneos. Pese a una formación célebremente inestable en torno a los dos fundadores, Megadeth se convirtió en una de las bandas definitorias del género y, junto a Metallica, Slayer y Anthrax, forma parte de los llamados «Big Four» del thrash metal.
Su etapa clásica de álbumes — Peace Sells... but Who's Buying?, So Far, So Good... So What!, Rust in Peace y Countdown to Extinction — combinó un virtuosismo guitarrístico intrincado con letras politizadas y a menudo cínicas sobre la guerra, la corrupción y la decadencia social. Temas como «Holy Wars... The Punishment Due», «Symphony of Destruction», «Tornado of Souls» y «Hangar 18» mostraron su característica mezcla de agresividad y técnica, mientras que canciones posteriores como «À Tout le Monde» y «Sweating Bullets» revelaron un lado más melódico e introspectivo.
A través de numerosos cambios de formación durante cuatro décadas, Mustaine siguió siendo la fuerza creativa constante de la banda, guiando a Megadeth por diferentes etapas estilísticas sin perder su reputación como una de las bandas técnicamente más brillantes e influyentes del metal.
