Sobre o artista
O Megadeth foi formado em Los Angeles em 1983 pelo guitarrista e vocalista Dave Mustaine após sua saída do Metallica, junto ao baixista David Ellefson, que se tornou seu parceiro musical de longa data. Batizada a partir do termo «megadeath», referente à morte em massa por armas nucleares, a banda se propôs a tocar um thrash metal mais rápido e tecnicamente mais exigente do que seus contemporâneos. Apesar de uma formação notoriamente instável em torno dos dois fundadores, o Megadeth se tornou uma das bandas definidoras do gênero e, ao lado de Metallica, Slayer e Anthrax, integra o chamado «Big Four» do thrash metal.
Sua fase clássica de álbuns — Peace Sells... but Who's Buying?, So Far, So Good... So What!, Rust in Peace e Countdown to Extinction — combinou um trabalho de guitarra virtuosístico e intrincado com letras politizadas e frequentemente cínicas sobre guerra, corrupção e decadência social. Faixas como «Holy Wars... The Punishment Due», «Symphony of Destruction», «Tornado of Souls» e «Hangar 18» mostraram sua mistura característica de agressividade e técnica, enquanto canções posteriores como «À Tout le Monde» e «Sweating Bullets» revelaram um lado mais melódico e introspectivo.
Após inúmeras trocas de formação ao longo de quatro décadas, Mustaine permaneceu como a força criativa constante da banda, conduzindo o Megadeth por diferentes fases estilísticas sem perder sua reputação como uma das bandas tecnicamente mais brilhantes e influentes do metal.
