About the artist
Korn is an American rock band formed in Bakersfield, California, in the early 1990s by James «Munky» Shaffer, Reginald «Fieldy» Arvizu, David Silveria, Brian «Head» Welch and vocalist Jonathan Davis, whose dark, emotionally raw delivery gave the band’s heavy, groove-driven sound its distinctive edge. Combining influences from metal, funk and hip-hop, the group pioneered a sound that became foundational to the nu-metal movement of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Songs like «Freak On a Leash», «Blind», «Falling Away from Me» and «Got the Life» established Korn as one of the genre’s defining acts, known for down-tuned seven-string guitars, Fieldy’s percussive bass style, and Davis’s confessional lyrics dealing with trauma, abuse and alienation. The band’s willingness to explore uncomfortable personal themes set them apart from much of the aggressive rock landscape of the era and influenced a generation of nu-metal and alternative metal bands.
Over the decades Korn has continued to evolve, incorporating electronic elements on later releases while maintaining the intensity of their early work. Their influence on heavy music extends well beyond nu-metal, and they remain one of the most commercially and critically significant bands to emerge from that scene.
