About the artist
Judas Priest are a British heavy metal band formed in Birmingham, England, in 1969, and are widely regarded as one of the genre's most influential pioneers. Fronted by the operatic, wide-ranging voice of Rob Halford and built on the twin-guitar attack pioneered by K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton, the band helped define the sound and visual language of heavy metal, popularizing the leather-and-studs aesthetic that became a genre staple through the 1980s.
After a formative period in the 1970s marked by lineup changes and uneven production, the band broke through commercially with the 1980 album British Steel, which streamlined their sound and produced enduring anthems such as «Breaking the Law» and «Living After Midnight». They followed this with further genre-defining releases, including «You've Got Another Thing Comin'» and the later thrash-influenced «Painkiller», which showcased a heavier, faster direction.
As part of the new wave of British heavy metal, Judas Priest bridged the gap between 1970s hard rock and the more extreme metal styles that followed, influencing countless bands across thrash, power, and traditional metal.
