About the artist
Bright Eyes is an American indie rock project centered on singer-songwriter Conor Oberst, who began releasing music as a teenager in Omaha, Nebraska in the mid-1990s. Over time the project evolved from a solo lo-fi outlet into a full band featuring multi-instrumentalist and producer Mike Mogis and trumpet and keyboard player Nate Walcott, with contributions from many collaborators tied to Omaha's Saddle Creek Records scene.
Bright Eyes became one of the defining acts of early-2000s indie and emo-adjacent songwriting, known for Oberst's confessional, literate lyrics and a sound that moved fluidly between fragile acoustic folk, electronic textures, and full-band rock arrangements. Songs like «Lua», «First Day of My Life», and «At the Bottom of Everything» showcase this range, pairing intimate vocal delivery with arrangements that could turn orchestral or noisy depending on the mood of the record.
