Pink Floyd é uma banda de rock inglesa formada em Londres em 1965 por Syd Barrett (guitarra, vocal), Nick Mason (bateria), Roger Waters (baixo) e Richard Wright (teclados), aos quais mais tarde se juntou David Gilmour na guitarra e nos vocais. O nome da banda vem de dois músicos de blues americanos, Pink Anderson e Floyd Council, admirados por Barrett. A banda tornou-se pioneira do rock psicodélico e progressivo, conhecida por longas passagens instrumentais, composição conceitual, produções ao vivo elaboradas e letras filosóficas, muitas vezes melancólicas.
Após a saída de Barrett em 1968 devido a problemas de saúde mental, Gilmour assumiu a guitarra e Waters tornou-se gradualmente o principal letrista e força conceitual da banda. Essa formação produziu os trabalhos mais aclamados do grupo, incluindo Dark Side of the Moon (1973), um dos álbuns mais vendidos e influentes da história do rock, seguido por Wish You Were Here (1975) e Animals (1977). Faixas como «Comfortably Numb», «Money», «Time» e «Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2» seguem como marcos do gênero, combinando o trabalho expressivo de guitarra de Gilmour com produção atmosférica e letras socialmente conscientes ou introspectivas.
Tensões internas, especialmente em torno do crescente controle criativo de Waters, acabaram levando a mudanças na formação e à própria saída de Waters nos anos 1980, embora a banda tenha continuado sem ele por um tempo.
