About the artist
Yes are an English progressive rock band formed in London in 1968 by bassist Chris Squire and singer Jon Anderson. Alongside groups like King Crimson, Genesis, and Emerson, Lake & Palmer, they became one of the defining acts of 1970s progressive rock, known for lengthy, intricately structured compositions, virtuosic instrumental interplay, and mystical, cosmic lyrical themes drawn from science fiction and Eastern philosophy.
The band's classic era featured a rotating but influential lineup including guitarist Steve Howe, keyboardist Rick Wakeman, and drummer Bill Bruford (later replaced by Alan White), whose combined musicianship shaped landmark albums built around extended suites and shifting time signatures. Their artwork, largely created by Roger Dean, became as iconic as the music itself, defining a visual identity for the progressive rock genre.
In the 1980s Yes reinvented itself with a more radio-friendly, synth-driven sound, achieving major commercial success with «Owner of a Lonely Heart», a US number-one hit that introduced the band to a new generation of listeners. Across decades and numerous lineup changes, Yes has remained a touchstone of progressive rock, celebrated for pushing the boundaries of structure and technical ambition in rock music.
