They Might Be Giants (TMBG) is an American alternative rock band formed in Brooklyn, New York, by John Flansburgh (guitar, vocals) and John Linnell (keyboards, accordion, vocals). Known for witty, surreal lyrics and an eclectic, hook-driven sound, the band built a devoted following through inventive songwriting that spans rock, pop, and quirky experimental arrangements.
Their early years featured a distinctive setup with a drum machine backing the two Johns, giving way over time to a full band lineup. TMBG became college-rock and alternative staples with songs like «Birdhouse in Your Soul» and «Istanbul (Not Constantinople)», and later found mainstream recognition when «Boss of Me», co-written with Mike Doughty, became the theme for the TV show Malcolm in the Middle and won a Grammy Award.
Beyond their alternative rock catalog, TMBG expanded into acclaimed children's music, with albums such as Here Come the ABCs earning strong commercial success.
