About the artist
The Strokes are an American rock band formed in New York City in the late 1990s, made up of Julian Casablancas (vocals), Nick Valensi and Albert Hammond Jr. (guitars), Nikolai Fraiture (bass) and Fabrizio Moretti (drums). They emerged as figureheads of the early-2000s garage rock revival, offering a stripped-down, riff-driven alternative to the nu-metal and rap-rock that dominated radio at the time.
Their debut album «Is This It» arrived to enormous critical acclaim and is widely credited with sparking a wave of guitar-rock bands across both sides of the Atlantic. Casablancas wrote most of the band's early material and shaped their tight, hook-laden sound, built on interlocking guitar lines and his distinctively filtered vocal delivery.
Over subsequent albums the band gradually opened up their songwriting process and experimented with denser, more layered production, while individual members pursued solo and side projects. Decades on, The Strokes remain one of the most influential rock acts of their generation, cited as a touchstone by countless bands that followed.
