About the artist
The 1975 are an English band from Macclesfield, Cheshire, formed by childhood friends Matty Healy (vocals, guitar), Adam Hann (guitar), Ross MacDonald (bass), and George Daniel (drums). Now based in Manchester, the band spent years releasing EPs before their self-titled debut album arrived in 2013, blending art rock, synth-pop, and dancefloor-leaning R&B into a sound defined by shifting aesthetics from record to record.
Their sophomore album, i like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it, embraced a glossier, 1980s-influenced pop sound and pushed the band into the mainstream, with tracks like «Somebody Else», «Love Me», and «The Sound» becoming fan favorites. Matty Healy’s lyrics often explore modern relationships, addiction, disillusionment, and social commentary, delivered with a mix of sincerity and irony.
Later releases, including A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships and Notes On A Conditional Form, saw the band continue to genre-hop across rock, electronic, and pop while tackling themes like technology’s effect on intimacy and mental health.
