Sam Smith is an English singer-songwriter born on 19 May 1992 and raised in a village on the Hertfordshire–Cambridgeshire border, near Bishops Stortford. Trained in jazz vocals from childhood, they left school at seventeen to chase a music career, working through years of struggle in London before their breakthrough came via a featured vocal on Disclosure's «Latch» and later Naughty Boy's «La La La». Their debut album, «In the Lonely Hour», turned Smith into a global star, driven by the soul-drenched singles «Stay With Me» and «I'm Not the Only One».
Smith's voice — a rich, aching falsetto-capable instrument — sits at the center of a sound that blends classic soul and gospel-influenced balladry with polished contemporary pop and R&B production.
