About the artist
King Crimson are an English progressive rock band formed in London in 1968, widely regarded as one of the genre's founding acts. Their debut album, «In the Court of the Crimson King» (1969), fused rock with jazz and classical influences and is considered a landmark recording that helped define progressive rock as a genre, bolstered by an opening slot for The Rolling Stones at Hyde Park.
Guitarist and composer Robert Fripp has been the band's sole constant member across its many lineups, steering it through strikingly different eras: the mellotron-heavy atmospherics of its early period, the improvisation-driven aggression of the «Larks' Tongues in Aspic», «Starless and Bible Black» and «Red» trilogy in the early-to-mid 1970s, the angular new-wave-inflected sound of the early 1980s lineup with Adrian Belew, and later incarnations exploring polyrhythmic, heavier textures. Notable members across the decades have included Greg Lake, Bill Bruford, John Wetton, Tony Levin and Mel Collins, among many others.
Known for constantly reinventing its sound rather than repeating past success, King Crimson has influenced a vast range of artists across rock, metal and experimental music, and maintains a devoted cult following built on its restless musical ambition and technical virtuosity.
