The Smashing Pumpkins é uma banda americana de rock alternativo formada em Chicago, Illinois. Liderada pelo guitarrista e vocalista Billy Corgan, a formação clássica também incluía o guitarrista James Iha, a baixista D'arcy Wretzky e o baterista Jimmy Chamberlin. Embora tenham surgido durante a era do grunge, o som da banda se afastou nitidamente da estética minimalista do gênero, favorecendo texturas densas de guitarra, ambição orquestral e um amplo espectro emocional que ia do hard rock agressivo à balada introspectiva e delicada.
O grande avanço veio com Siamese Dream, seguido pelo ambicioso álbum duplo Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, que consolidou a banda como uma das grandes referências do rock dos anos 1990. O mais experimental Adore explorou texturas eletrônicas e uma direção mais melancólica. O virtuosismo de Corgan na guitarra e suas letras, que oscilam entre raiva crua e reflexão vulnerável, tornaram-se marca registrada da banda.
