The Smashing Pumpkins es una banda estadounidense de rock alternativo formada en Chicago, Illinois. Liderada por el guitarrista y vocalista Billy Corgan, la formación clásica incluía también al guitarrista James Iha, la bajista D'arcy Wretzky y el baterista Jimmy Chamberlin. Aunque surgieron durante la era del grunge, su sonido se alejó notablemente de la estética minimalista del género, apostando por texturas de guitarra densas, ambición orquestal y un amplio rango emocional que iba del hard rock agresivo a la balada introspectiva.
Su gran salto llegó con Siamese Dream, seguido del ambicioso álbum doble Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, que los consolidó como una de las bandas de rock definitorias de los años noventa. El más experimental Adore exploró texturas electrónicas y una dirección más melancólica.
