Sobre o artista
O The National se formou em 1999, quando cinco amigos de Cincinnati, Ohio, voltaram a morar perto uns dos outros em Carroll Gardens, no Brooklyn. A formação se estabeleceu em torno do vocalista Matt Berninger, dos irmãos guitarristas e multi-instrumentistas Aaron e Bryce Dessner, e da seção rítmica dos irmãos Scott e Bryan Devendorf, um alinhamento que permaneceu notavelmente estável ao longo de duas décadas.
Seu som se apoia no barítono grave e sombrio de Berninger e em letras literárias e frequentemente oblíquas, ao lado do trabalho intrincado de guitarra e dos arranjos orquestrais dos Dessner e da bateria propulsiva e característica de Bryan Devendorf. Álbuns como «Boxer» (2007) e «High Violet» (2010) os consagraram como um dos atos mais aclamados do indie rock, com faixas como «Bloodbuzz Ohio», «Pink Rabbits» e «I Need My Girl» exibindo sua mistura de melancolia e intensidade de queima lenta.
A banda também ficou conhecida por colaborações de destaque, incluindo trabalho com Justin Vernon, do Bon Iver, e uma versão memorável de «The Rains of Castamere» para a trilha sonora de Game of Thrones.
