Sobre el artista
David Bowie (1947–2016), nacido David Robert Jones en Brixton, Londres, fue una de las figuras más influyentes y en constante reinvención de la historia de la música popular. A lo largo de una carrera de cinco décadas, cambió continuamente de personaje, género e identidad visual, pasando de sus inicios en folk-rock al alter ego glam-rock Ziggy Stardust, a través del soul, la experimental Trilogía de Berlín, la new wave y más allá, siempre adelantándose a las tendencias imperantes.
Su gran avance llegó con «Space Oddity» en 1969, cuya historia del astronauta ficticio Major Tom capturó la imaginación pública en medio del alunizaje del Apollo. El álbum de 1972 The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars lo convirtió en una estrella global, seguido de obras aclamadas como Hunky Dory, Low y «Heroes», estas dos últimas producidas con Brian Eno y Tony Visconti durante su célebre etapa berlinesa, y Let's Dance en los años ochenta, que le trajo éxito pop masivo con temas como el título y «Modern Love».
La imagen andrógina de Bowie y su experimentación de géneros sin miedo lo convirtieron en una influencia decisiva para el glam, el art rock, la new wave y generaciones posteriores de artistas pop y rock.
