Zoé

Zoé is a Mexican psychedelic rock band formed in the mid-1990s in Cuernavaca, going through several lineup changes before settling into the classic quintet of León Larregui on vocals, Sergio Acosta on lead guitar, Jesús Báez on keyboards, Ángel Mosqueda on bass, and Alberto Cabrera on drums. The band’s name, meaning life in ancient Greek, reflects the deliberately short, understated choice they made in contrast to more elaborate band names common in the rock scene of the time.

Zoé’s sound draws heavily on influences like The Beatles, The Stone Roses, The Charlatans, Gustavo Cerati, and Saúl Hernández of Caifanes, blending dreamy, atmospheric guitars with introspective, often cosmic and philosophical lyrics centered on the universe and space. This combination helped them stand apart within the Latin American rock landscape, moving from underground demo tapes and self-organized shows into a signing with EMI Music that launched their recording career.

Over the following decades the band built a catalog defined by songs such as «Azul», «Labios Rotos», «Venus», and «Arrullo de Estrellas», along with acclaimed MTV Unplugged performances that reinterpreted tracks like «Luna» and «Soñé». Zoé became one of the most recognizable Spanish-language rock acts of its generation, known for atmospheric live shows and a consistent artistic identity across its discography.
