About the artist
Weezer are an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1992, led by singer, guitarist and primary songwriter Rivers Cuomo. Emerging alongside the alternative rock boom of the 1990s, the band carved out a distinct niche with geeky, self-deprecating lyrics wrapped in melodic, guitar-driven power pop, a formula that set them apart from the grunge and post-grunge acts dominating the era.
Their self-titled debut, commonly known as the Blue Album, produced hits like «Buddy Holly» and «Undone - The Sweater Song» and remains a touchstone of 1990s alternative rock. The follow-up, Pinkerton, was initially divisive but has since been reassessed as a raw, confessional classic beloved by fans and critics alike. The band has continued to evolve across a long string of color-titled and self-titled albums, moving through power pop, arena rock and even orchestral and a cappella experiments.
With Cuomo at the songwriting helm alongside longtime members Patrick Wilson and Brian Bell, and bassist Scott Shriner, Weezer has remained a durable presence in alternative rock, balancing nostalgia for their earlier sound with a willingness to experiment across genres on later releases.
