Ween is an American experimental rock band formed in New Hope, Pennsylvania, in 1984 by Aaron Freeman and Mickey Melchiondo, who perform under the stage names Gene Ween and Dean Ween. Starting as a lo-fi, guitar-and-drum-machine duo, the pair developed a reputation for genre-hopping unpredictability, refusing to settle into a single sonic identity across their career.
Over nine studio albums, Ween moved fluidly between rock, pop, country, funk, and electronic textures, often within the same record, pairing absurdist or deadpan humor with genuine musical craftsmanship. Songs like «Ocean Man» and «Baby Bitch» showcase their knack for melodic, almost sincere songwriting wrapped in irony, while other material leans into deliberately lo-fi or parodic experimentation, making them a cult favorite among fans of eclectic, boundary-blurring rock.
