About the artist

Warren Zevon was an American singer-songwriter born in Chicago in 1947, known for a body of work marked by dark wit, literary storytelling, and an outlandish sense of humor rarely found in mainstream rock. After years as a session and touring musician in the Los Angeles scene of the early 1970s, working alongside artists connected to Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, and the Eagles' circle, Zevon emerged as a distinctive solo voice, blending piano-driven rock with sharp, novelistic lyrics.

His best-known song, «Werewolves of London», became a radio staple for its wry humor and instantly recognizable piano riff, while tracks like «Excitable Boy», «Lawyers, Guns and Money», and «Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner» showcased his talent for turning violence, absurdity, and personal chaos into vivid, often blackly comic narratives. Jackson Browne produced his early albums and championed his career, and Zevon collaborated over the years with musicians including members of Fleetwood Mac and R.E.M.

Zevon struggled publicly with alcoholism and personal turmoil, themes that surfaced obliquely throughout his songwriting, and he continued releasing acclaimed albums across three decades. His final album, «The Wind», recorded while he was terminally ill, and songs like «Keep Me in Your Heart», stand as a poignant close to a career defined by intelligence, vulnerability, and unflinching honesty. He died in 2003, remembered as one of rock's most original and literate songwriters.
