Volbeat

Volbeat are a Danish rock band formed in Copenhagen in 2001 by vocalist and guitarist Michael Poulsen, who had previously fronted the death metal band Dominus. Frustrated with the constraints of the death metal scene, Poulsen assembled a new lineup blending rock and roll, heavy metal, and rockabilly into a sound that would become the band's signature. The name Volbeat is a play on the title of Dominus's third album, Vol.Beat.

The band built its reputation through relentless touring and a string of albums that steadily expanded their audience beyond Denmark, eventually breaking into mainstream European and American rock charts. Songs like «Still Counting», «Lola Montez», and «The Devil's Bleeding Crown» showcase their trademark fusion of Elvis-inspired crooning, metal riffing, and punk energy, a combination that sets them apart from most of their heavy metal peers.

Over the years Volbeat has collaborated with notable guest vocalists and toured extensively with acts across the metal and rock spectrum, cementing their status as one of the most commercially successful rock exports from Denmark. Their sound continues to draw on both aggressive metal instrumentation and melodic, retro rock and roll sensibilities, giving them a distinctive place in modern hard rock.
