Tina Turner

Tina Turner, born Anna Mae Bullock in Brownsville, Tennessee on November 26, 1939, became one of the most electrifying performers in popular music history, earning the title Queen of Rock & Roll. She began singing in church and, as a teenager, started performing in nightclubs near St. Louis, where in 1957 she met bandleader Ike Turner. She joined his group, the Kings of Rhythm, soon becoming its lead singer; Ike renamed her Tina, and her debut single as Tina Turner, «A Fool in Love», arrived in 1960.

As the Ike & Tina Turner Revue, the duo became a defining force in R&B and soul through the late 1960s and early 1970s, delivering explosive live shows and landmark recordings including a searing cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival's «Proud Mary» and the Phil Spector-produced «River Deep – Mountain High». Turner's raw, powerful voice and ferocious stage presence helped push R&B further into the mainstream.

After leaving Ike Turner in the late 1970s, she reinvented herself as a solo rock and pop icon in the 1980s, scoring massive hits like «What's Love Got to Do with It», «Private Dancer», and «The Best», and later contributing the Bond theme «GoldenEye». Her career stands as one of music's great comeback stories, blending rock, soul, and pop with unmatched vocal intensity and stagecraft.
