About the artist
Theory of a Deadman is a Canadian rock band formed in Delta, British Columbia, in 2001. The band's name comes from their song «The Last Song», originally titled «Theory of a Deadman», which describes a man contemplating suicide — a dark origin that hints at the emotionally direct, often confrontational tone found throughout their catalog.
The band built its reputation through a string of hard-rock and post-grunge influenced albums, with 2008's «Scars & Souvenirs» marking a commercial breakthrough. That album, which featured guest vocals from Chris Daughtry and Robin Diaz, was eventually certified platinum, and its singles «Bad Girlfriend», «All or Nothing», and «Not Meant to Be» all charted on the Billboard Hot 100. Their sound combines gritty, riff-driven rock with radio-ready hooks and lyrics that range from brash and irreverent to introspective and melancholic, as heard on songs like «Rx (Medicate)» and «Angel».
Over the years, Theory of a Deadman earned multiple Juno Award nominations and won the award for New Group of the Year in 2003. In 2017, the band shortened its name to Theory, reflecting an evolution in their sound and identity while continuing to build on the hard rock foundation that first brought them recognition.
