The White Stripes

The White Stripes were an American rock duo from Detroit, Michigan, consisting of Jack White on guitar and vocals and Meg White on drums. Emerging in the late 1990s as part of the Detroit garage rock revival, the pair presented themselves with a striking visual identity built around red, white, and black, and for years cultivated an air of mystery by claiming to be siblings rather than a former married couple.

Their sound fused raw, minimalist blues with the energy and simplicity of punk rock, stripped down to just guitar and drums with no bassist, giving their records a stark, powerful intensity. Albums such as White Blood Cells and Elephant brought them to mainstream prominence in the early 2000s, with the latter producing the riff-driven anthem «Seven Nation Army», one of the most recognizable rock songs of the era.

The White Stripes became one of the defining acts of the garage rock revival alongside bands like The Strokes, earning multiple Grammy Awards and critical acclaim for their raw authenticity. The duo disbanded in 2011, but their influence on rock music, and Jack White's continued prominence as a solo artist and producer, cemented their legacy as one of the most important rock acts of their generation.
