The Rembrandts

The Rembrandts are an American pop-rock duo formed in 1989 by Danny Wilde and Phil Solem, both music-industry veterans who had previously worked together in the band Great Buildings. They recorded their self-titled debut album largely at Wilde’s home, drawing on years of songwriting experience to craft polished, harmony-driven power pop.

The duo built a modest but steady following through the early 1990s with singles like «Just The Way It Is, Baby», but they are most widely remembered for «I’ll Be There for You», written as the theme song for the sitcom Friends. The song became a massive crossover hit, introducing the group to a far larger audience than their album sales alone had reached and remaining one of the most recognizable TV theme songs of the era.

Wilde and Solem split as a duo in 1997 but have reunited periodically since to write new material and work as producers for other artists, continuing to perform and record together on and off in the following decades.
