The Outfield

The Outfield were an English rock band from London, best known in the United States for their 1985 hit «Your Love» from the debut album «Play Deep», a Top 10 single on the Billboard Hot 100. Working in a melodic pop-rock and new wave-adjacent style, the trio built songs around bright guitar hooks, layered harmonies, and radio-friendly production that drew comparisons to American arena-rock acts like Foreigner and Journey — a resemblance so strong that many listeners assumed they were American.

Beyond «Your Love», the band charted with «All the Love in the World», «Since You’ve Been Gone», and «Voices of Babylon», sustaining a run of AOR and pop-rock success through the late 1980s. Their name and imagery leaned on baseball references despite the band having little personal connection to the sport, a quirk stemming from an earlier band name inspired by a fictional street gang.

The group’s lineup saw changes over the years, including guitarist Alan Jackman’s departure and later return, and they continued releasing music into the 1990s before eventually disbanding, leaving «Your Love» as their enduring signature song still heard regularly on classic rock and pop radio.
