The Last Shadow Puppets

The Last Shadow Puppets are a British rock super-group formed by Alex Turner, frontman of Arctic Monkeys, and Miles Kane, of The Rascals and later a solo artist. The duo shares songwriting and vocal duties, with producer and drummer James Ford, known for his work with Simian Mobile Disco, rounding out the core lineup. Bassist Zach Dawes of Mini Mansions joined as a touring and session member, and composer Owen Pallett contributed string arrangements to both records.

Their debut album, «The Age of the Understatement», released in 2008, drew heavily on the orchestral pop and dramatic arrangements associated with Scott Walker and 1960s and 1970s cinematic pop, marking a stark departure from the more stripped-down guitar rock both members were known for in their main bands. The record was praised for its lush production and swagger, quickly establishing the group as more than a side project.

After a lengthy hiatus during which both members pursued solo work and their respective bands, the Puppets returned in 2016 with «Everything You’ve Come to Expect», a moodier, more restrained record that retained the orchestral flourishes while leaning into introspection. Songs like «Aviation», «Miracle Aligner», and «Bad Habits» showcased the interplay between Turner and Kane’s voices and songwriting chemistry. Turner has spoken about wanting to make further records with the group, suggesting the project remains an ongoing, if intermittent, creative outlet.
