About the artist
The Hoosiers are a British pop-rock band formed in Kingston upon Thames, England. The group built their reputation on hook-laden, piano-driven indie pop with a theatrical, slightly eccentric edge, standing out in the mid-2000s UK indie boom for their bright melodies and witty, story-driven lyrics rather than guitar-heavy anthems.
Their 2007 debut album, «The Trick to Life», was a multi-platinum success in the UK, propelled by singles such as «Worried About Ray» and «Goodbye Mr. A», both of which showcased the band's knack for quirky character studies set to euphoric choruses. The follow-up, «The Illusion of Safety», was recorded under heavy commercial pressure from their label and proved a more difficult, less satisfying experience for the band creatively.
After stepping back to regroup, The Hoosiers returned with «The News from Nowhere» in 2014, an independently made record the band has described as a more honest and personally satisfying return to form, followed by further self-directed releases that continued their run of tightly crafted, hook-first songwriting. Songs like «Killer», «Cops and Robbers» and «Up to No Good» remain staples of their catalogue and reflect the band's consistent identity: melodic, narrative-driven pop-rock delivered with humor and theatrical flair.
