The Hollies

The Hollies are a British pop-rock group formed in Manchester in 1962 by Allan Clarke and Graham Nash. Emerging from the Merseybeat scene alongside contemporaries like the Beatles, the band became one of the leading British groups of the 1960s, known above all for their pioneering three-part vocal harmonies, which set them apart from many peers and became their signature trademark.

The group's catalogue spans buoyant, harmony-driven pop-rock singles such as «Bus Stop» and «Carrie Anne» through to the more soul- and country-tinged sound of later hits like «Long Cool Woman (In a Black Dress)» and the enduring ballad «He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother». «The Air That I Breathe» further showed the band's ability to adapt their harmony style to softer, more orchestrated pop.

Graham Nash left in 1968 to form the influential supergroup Crosby, Stills & Nash, but the Hollies continued recording and touring successfully into the 1970s and beyond. Their tight vocal blend and knack for melodic songwriting made them one of the most consistently charting British acts of the era, with a run of hits that has kept their music in circulation for decades.
