The Goo Goo Dolls

The Goo Goo Dolls are an American rock band formed in 1986 in Buffalo, New York. The group's core lineup has centered on guitarist and vocalist John Rzeznik and bassist and vocalist Robby Takac, with Mike Malinin later joining as drummer. Emerging from Buffalo's underground music scene, the band started out with a rougher, punk-inflected sound influenced by acts like The Replacements before evolving into one of the defining radio-rock groups of the 1990s.

The Goo Goo Dolls broke through commercially with the albums «A Boy Named Goo» in 1995 and «Dizzy Up the Girl» in 1998, which produced some of their most enduring songs, including «Name», «Iris», «Slide», and «Black Balloon». «Iris», written for the film soundtrack «City of Angels», became one of the most played songs in American radio history and remains the band's signature track. These releases marked a shift from their edgier early work toward a more polished, melodic pop-rock style built around Rzeznik's songwriting.

Over more than three decades and a dozen studio albums, the Goo Goo Dolls have remained a fixture of adult alternative and pop-rock radio, balancing anthemic ballads with rock instrumentation. Their catalog reflects a band that grew from scrappy underground roots into one of the most commercially successful rock acts to emerge from the Buffalo scene.
