About the artist
The Gaslight Anthem is a rock band formed in 2006 in New Brunswick, New Jersey, built around the songwriting of vocalist and guitarist Brian Fallon, alongside lead guitarist Alex Rosamilia, bassist Alex Levine, and drummer Benny Horowitz. Emerging from the New Jersey punk scene that produced bands like the Bouncing Souls, the group fused the raw energy of punk with the heartland storytelling and working-class romanticism of Bruce Springsteen, whose influence on Fallon's songwriting is frequently cited by critics and the band itself.
The band's breakthrough came with its second album, «The '59 Sound» (2008), which paired anthemic choruses with vivid, nostalgic lyrical imagery and established the sound the group would build on through «American Slang» and «Handwritten». Their music blends gruff, soulful vocals with driving guitars, drawing comparisons to both classic American rock and the melodic hardcore scene the members came up in.
After the darker, more polished «Get Hurt» in 2014, the band went on indefinite hiatus in 2015. They reunited for tenth-anniversary shows around «The '59 Sound» starting in 2018 and released a collection of rarities, «The '59 Sound Sessions», the same year, before Fallon and other members pursued solo and side projects.
