The Fratellis

The Fratellis are a Scottish rock band from Glasgow formed in 2005, built around a trio of members who adopted the shared surname Fratelli, a nod to the crime family from the film «The Goonies» despite none of them actually being related. Emerging alongside a wave of mid-2000s British indie rock bands, the group quickly stood out for its raucous, guitar-driven energy and knack for instantly hooky, singalong choruses.

Their debut single «Creepin’ Up the Backstairs» drew early attention, but it was «Chelsea Dagger», from their debut album «Costello Music», that became their signature song — a rowdy, terrace-chant anthem that found a life well beyond indie rock circles, particularly through its adoption at sports events, and helped push the band to mainstream visibility. The success of «Costello Music» earned them the Brit Award for British Breakthrough Act, and further exposure came via features in film and television, including the use of their material in the comedy «Hot Fuzz».

Across subsequent albums, The Fratellis continued to mine a blend of scrappy garage rock, pub-rock swagger, and pop songcraft, occasionally incorporating country and folk-tinged textures into their sound. Songs like «Whistle for the Choir» and «Henrietta» showcase a softer, more melodic side alongside their rowdier material, reflecting a band comfortable moving between raucous energy and more restrained songwriting.
